Welcome to the Juniors at Brabyns
The Juniors (Key Stage 2) is made up of 4 classes: Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Here we continue to embed the Brabyns Learning Values throughout the broad and varied, knowledge-rich curriculum, with specialist teaching in Science, PE, Spanish, Music and Drama.
The transition from Infants to Juniors is managed carefully, supporting the children to grow in independence and take more responsibility for themselves.
Visits to places of interest are undertaken throughout the school year to enhance our curriculum, and residential trips are offered to all pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. In addition, Junior children have the opportunity to build their resilience and independence through an opt-in alpine ski trip each year.
As well as opportunities for individual music tuition and participation in the school’s choirs and other ensembles, the Juniors also enjoy putting on an annual show at a local theatre. Children are encouraged to represent their school in sporting activities, attending many fixtures throughout the year.
We prepare our students for their transition to senior school academically and emotionally, offering ‘life skills’ activities in Year 6, alongside the curriculum.
As the children make their journey through the Juniors, their leadership skills are developed, and in Year 6 each child is awarded a ‘captaincy’ role, where they take responsibility for a committee or subject area, and ensure that ‘Pupil Voice’ is heard and acted upon.
