This term Year 3 enjoyed an afternoon of festive Forest School activities with our friends in Year 4. Using our beautiful Forest School area in school grounds, the children were able to complete four activities which included wreath making, building a Christmas tree, designing a reindeer and making a star.
Forest School is extremely important in creating an outdoor learning environment which promotes the holistic development of all children, fostering resilient, independent and confident learners. By enhancing children’s awareness of the outdoors, it helps to nurture them into creative learners.
The activities required the children to rummage around the Forest School area looking for different size twigs and leaves that they felt would suit what they were trying to make. Then, along with the materials available, they made their own star, wreath, tree or reindeer – they all looked fantastic.
A key highlight from the afternoon’s activities was after we had finished our four activities. We sat around the fire toasting our marshmallows and enjoying a hot drink (this definitely warmed us all up!).
A huge well done to Year 3 for all of their hard work so far this year, and in particular during our Forest School sessions where all of the children have shown determination, resilience and independence. We all look forward to our next Forest School in the Spring Term where we will focus on den building.
